SERVANT LEADERSHIP IS OUR IDENTITY

Series Launch

DISCUSS THE CALL TO ACTION

OUR IDENTITY SHAPES OUR ACTIONS
What we believe about ourselves will influence how we act. At our core, who we think we are matters.

Read

Luke 22:24-26
A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.

Main Idea

At the last supper with Christ, the disciples began to argue with each other as to who was the greatest. Christ taught them that the one who would be truly great would be the one who serves. As we live in a culture that embraces self promotion and cut throat tactics to get ahead, the lessons of Christ run counter to the message we are bombarded with daily. Like Christ, we are to embrace servant leadership as my identity.

SERVANT LEADERSHIP IS MY IDENTITY BECAUSE PEOPLE DON’T FOLLOW TITLES

Question for group

Describe a time where you interacted with someone who served you and truly took your interests to heart. How did that make you feel? Would you follow that person? Would you consider them to be great?

SERVANT LEADERSHIP IS MY IDENTITY BECAUSE KNOWLEDGE DOESN’T ALWAYS EQUAL POWER

Question for group

To lead, do you have to be the most knowledgeable? If so, why? If not, what is needed to lead and why?

SERVANT LEADERSHIP IS MY IDENTITY BECAUSE HUMILITY AND AUTHORITY CAN COEXIST

Question for group

We all lead in some way, shape, or form. Even the most timid of us have opportunities to lead either at home, at work, at church, or through everyday social interactions. With that in mind, talk about where you lead and how you can change the dynamic of your leadership through humble serving.

Call to action

In your areas of influence, what can you specifically do to serve? How and when will you put it into action?
