THE DREAM PART 7 – MADE FOR MORE. FAITHFUL WITH LESS

Series Launch

11.2.2019

MAIN THOUGHT

Have you ever felt like you were made for more than where you are in your current circumstances?  Joseph felt that way when he found himself stuck in prison, being put in charge of the prisoners and their routines.  He was made for more but was being asked to be faithful with less.  Despite these circumstances, he kept his focus on his dream and kept an attitude that honored God and stayed faithful where he was at as he waited for the promised “more” in his future.  We could learn from his example.

Read

Genesis 39:22-23

So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there.  The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.

EXPAND

Stuck in prison, Joseph took every opportunity to be faithful where he was at as he waiting on the fulfillment of where he was going.  In the journey of every dreamer, there will come times where we are asked to be faithful with less as we wait for more.  Our attitude, work ethic, and integrity during these times help shape who we are and pave the way for God to do “more” in ways that we could never even fathom.

FAITHFUL IN FRONT OF YOUR PEERS.  GIVEN MORE TRUST BY THE PEOPLE WHO MATTER.  (So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison… / The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care…)

Joseph was a prisoner just like the others.  Instead of doing as they did and lowering himself to their standards and attitudes, he instead kept his integrity and stayed faithful to who God called him to be.  His reward by being faithful was being give more trust by the warden.  It can become easy to allow our peers to influence us to the point where we aren’t faithful in front of them.   When we are, the doors of trust with those who are looking will open up.  Trust leads to opportunity. We must be faithful when our peers are not.

Question for group

HOW DOES TRUST INFLUENCE OPPORTUNITY?  HOW IS TRUST EARNED?

FAITHFUL IN CIRCUMSTANCES YOU DIDN’T CHOOSE.  GIVEN MORE THAN YOU NEED TO THRIVE.  (….and he was made responsible for all that was done there) / (…because the Lord was with Joseph)

Joseph didn’t choose to be responsible for the day to day operations of the jail.  He was faithful with it anyway.  His reward was to be given more of what he needed thrive even in the middle of circumstances that were not ideal.  God was with Joseph, which was more than Joseph would need to thrive. When we make the choice to be faithful in circumstances that we couldn’t choose on our own, the provision and presence of God is granted to us to allow us to thrive no matter what our circumstances are.

Question for group

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO THRIVE?  HOW DOES FAITHFULNESS UNLOCK THE PROVISION OF GOD?

FAITHFUL WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING.  GIVEN MORE FAVOR TO WIN IN ALL SEASONS (The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care….. / and gave him success in whatever he did)

Because Joseph was faithful even when no one else was looking, God was able to trust him with wins in all seasons.  Whatever Joseph did, God could trust him with success.  So often, we can believe the lie that success lies in working harder, or in cutting corners, or in winning at all cost.  The ways of God are different.  The ones who will be faithful, even when no one is looking, can be trusted and will find success in all seasons and in all tasks.

Question for group

HOW DOES FAITHFULNESS IN PRIVATE LEAD TO SUCCESS IN PUBLIC?  DO THE SUCCESSES ALWAYS COME INSTANTLY?
