THE DREAM PART 9 – WAITING WITH WONDER

Series Launch

11.2.2019

MAIN THOUGHT

Every dreamer must wait. The “when” of seeing the fulfillment of our dream is not up to us and we cannot make it happen in our strength and wisdom.  God knows the timing of the fulfillment, and we must learn to trust Him and wait.    We cannot control how long we wait.  We can control, however, our attitudes during this time and can choose to wait with wonder.

Read

Genesis 41:1

When two full years had passed.

EXPAND

Joseph was still in prison, holding on to a dream that God had given him years earlier. A full two years passed and Joseph was forced to wait.  While he battled a variety of emotions as he waited, God was still at work in his life and in his dream.  Despite the waiting, there were still truths from his life that we can pull from and apply.

TIME MAY PASS BUT THE PROMISE DOES NOT

Two full years passed and Joseph was forced to wait. Despite the length of time, what God had spoken over him was still going to come true.  The lie we are tempted to believe as we wait is that God has somehow forgotten about us or that he will forget what he has spoken to us.  This simply is not true.  What God speaks, he will bring to fulfillment.

Question for group

What lies are you tempted to believe while you wait?

DON’T MISTAKE SILENCE FOR INACTVITY OR INDIFFERENCE

For Joseph, the most difficult part of this waiting season was the silence of God.  Just because God was silent does not mean that He wasn’t working or that He didn’t care.  God was setting everything up for Josephs good and for His glory.  We must be careful to keep our focus and hold on to what He last told us when we deal with silence as we wait.

Question for group

How is it possible to trust God is still working even though He is silent?

PUT THE RIGHT PUNCTUATION ON YOUR WAITING (Genesis 41:1 – When two full years had passed, Pharaoh had a dream.)

Two full years had passed, but that was not the end of the story.  The end of the story is that everything for two years led to the one defining moment of Pharaoh having a dream that Joseph would interpret.  Like Joseph, we cannot choose the amount of time that we wait.  We can control, how we define it.  We can choose to view our waiting time through the lens of faith or we can choose to view it through the lens of skepticism.  God will fulfill his promise either way, because he cannot lie, but defining the waiting season is up to us.

Question for group

What are ways you can keep a healthy attitude and perspective while waiting?
